----Meeting held in the cafeteria of the Geyser Road School
at 7pm.
---- Recording Secretary, Cary Hickey, submitted the
minutes from Nov. 11 meeting which were read and accepted.
----Corresponding Secretary, John Baldwin, will add the
Times Union and the Schenectady Gazette to publications which receive our
notices of meetings and press releases.
----Treasurer, Arlene Fernandes, reported that we have
$240.00 in memberships, plus 4 checks just received, giving us a total of
$280.00.
We were reminded that only dues paying members are eligible
to vote.
Dues are $10 per household per year. (One vote per
household)
A motion was accepted to have a small amount of petty cash
available ($10) for postage or copy costs.
----President, Molly Gagne’, gave a short reading on the
importance of fostering “Community”. Gaining information about our city
government is “smart” and sharing that information promotes “Community”.
SWNA members have stepped forward and “adopted”
specific issues. They promote “community” by sharing what they have learned.
The City Council was encouraged to “adopt” the
issue of Code Education as a way of promoting “Community”.
----Vice-President, Joseph Kearney,
presented the slate of officers. Since
all the officers ran unopposed, the recording secretary was asked to accept the
slate with a single vote.
Standing Committee Reports- Sidewalk/Bike Path being
adopted by
Dennis Hodges.
-“adopt a highway” report given by Jean Hall.
Jean
is compiling a list of volunteers for a
program to adopt a section of Geyser Road.
The “adoption” is being coordinated with Joe
Miranda who directs the County program.
Still to adopt - checking
accuracy of realty maps
- “signage” that appears on street corners and related Codes.
Old Business- a report that Steve Rodriguez has received
our
Certificate of Incorporation.
The SWNA is now official!
New Business ---- member John Baldwin has devoted a lot of
his time to attending meetings concerning the “water issue” as it affects
the City. He will be attending the
town meeting in the near future and will share what he learns with us.

---- member Mary Beth Delarm
announced that there will be a meeting taking place at the Gideon Putnam on
Wednesday, January 14 to talk about a proposed development between Casino Drive
and Hathorn Blvd./Quevic Dr.. The project may include more than 100 new homes.
---- member Bob Spratt, who is also head of the Recreation Commission for
the City, informed the attendees
about the latest developments in determining a site for a new indoor recreation
facility. He suggested that, should
the plan to locate the facility on the West Side Field fall through, the Rec
Commission and the City should consider the
possibility of locating it in the city-owned Geyser Park (which is part of our
southwest neighborhood).
Guest Presentation ---- Commissioner Tom Curley presented
the plan for establishing a Community Police Officer in our south west
neighborhood.
Sergeant Warren Wildy detailed the plan and discussed the
results of the mailed survey done by his department. The top 3 concerns:
1) unsafe traffic
2) animal nuisance complaints
3) unsupervised children
Public Safety will update
plans for the community officer at our next meeting in March. When
assigned, our community police officer will attend our SWNA meetings on a
regular basis.
Citizens are reminded of the “drug tip” line to
report any suspicious activity. 584-TIPS.
